Sea, hills or at home: choosing the location for your maternity session in Provence
Provence has incredible settings, but the best location is still the one where you feel good. A quick tour, season by season.
Maternity- The right spot is first of all an accessible one: little walking, some shade, a place to sit.
- The sea at the end of the day, the hills in spring, lavender only from mid-June to mid-July.
- At home, the session becomes more intimate and lends itself beautifully to family moments.
People often ask me for “the most beautiful place” for a maternity session. There isn't just one. There's the one that fits your season, your energy right now, and the story you want to tell. Here's how I think it through with moms-to-be.
By the sea: the evening light
Around Marseille, the sea offers gorgeous evenings: pale rocks, an open horizon, golden light gliding over the water. The Côte Bleue, the little valleys and the coves along the coast often make it possible to find a quiet corner with very little walking.
The Calanques are stunning, but some of them require a real hike down. In your 8th month, that's not a good idea. In summer, access to the hills and massifs can also be closed or restricted on days of high wildfire risk. I always check these things with you before the date.

Hills and countryside: softness and wide-open spaces
The Alpilles, the Luberon or the area around Aix offer olive trees, fields and pine-lined paths. It's a softer, earthier setting that goes beautifully with warm-toned dresses. In spring, the grass is green and the poppies come out; in fall, everything turns golden.
You dream of photos in the lavender, but your 7th month falls in September.
Lavender generally blooms from mid-June to mid-July, and then it's harvested. In September, we'll go for golden fields, olive groves or the sea instead, which will be just as beautiful. A seasonal setting always beats a forced one.

At home: intimacy
The at-home session is often underrated. And yet it sometimes gives the most touching images: the nursery being set up, morning light in your living room, an older sibling resting their head on your bump. You're at home, you can sit down, take a break, have a cup of tea. For women who are very tired at the end of pregnancy, it's an ideal option.
Picture a couple torn between an outdoor session and one at home. We can combine both: half an hour in their apartment for intimate images by the window, then twenty minutes in a park or by the water just around the corner, as the light turns golden. Two moods, no exhaustion.

How I help you choose
Think about later, too: a place that means something to you (your neighborhood, the beach you go to every summer, the family home) will give your photos extra value in a few years.
